Dear President Obama:

You spoke last night about Socialized Medicine and revealed your true intent to take from US seniors their current level of health care. You intend to pay for socialized medicine on the backs of Americans who depend upon Medicare/ Medicaid. You certainly can't argue with that, for last night you made it quite clear.

We seniors would have been better off to never have had government health insurance than for you to take it away after we have grown dependent upon it. You know that the cost of health care would be significantly less (about 50% less) if Medicare/ Medicaid never existed. Medicare/Medicaid does exist and you should not now diminish it or your second term will never happen.

Senior Americans will never let a Chicago street organizer get away with this sort of thing. We deserve much better. We fought your wars. We created your great economy and you destroyed it. Take away our health care and you will have to answer for it.

Jay is a plant

Jay Rockefeller was planted like a fine weed here in West Virginia by a family that was at the heart of the progressive movement back in the 19teens as well as being part of the beginnings of the Federal Reserve in 1913. In 1976 more than 40 million dollars was spent to get him elected governor of WV. Shortly thereafter, the huge coal-to-gasoline plant being planned for Morgantown was killed. It seems that it interfered with the family's oil business. WV's future in 1976 was very bright, but soon dimmed after his election.

Jay has been sitting in a WV senate seat for many years looking after the welfare of his family's businesses and banks in New York and doing nearly nothing for the people of WV. The argument that he is too rich to influence certainly does hold water for the people of WV have never held any influence with him.

It is time to stand up to his millions and send the boy home. He has hurt us more than anyone could imagine.

Currently he is doing great damage to the Republic and the Constitution. Too much damage to allow this traitor to stay in the Senate. His friends have become rich hanging onto his coat tails. They are powerful, yet they must be stood up to and exposed as well. They are planted in every bank and law office in the city of Charleston.

It is time for West Virginians to pluck this weed and send the boy home!!!!!

Editor, News-Register:

This is an open letter to U.S. Rep. Charles Wilson, D-Ohio:

Dear Representative Wilson,

I am writing to express concerns over several issues facing our nation:

1. Cap and trade: This monster is going to put many out of business and break the backs of the American family with high-energy costs. It seems to me this is really just another tax.

2. Government take-over of private industry: STOP! If a company cannot make a profit, cannot run efficiently, let them fail. My husband is a small business owner, as you yourself are, and we are not asking or expecting the government's help with our finances. We must live within our means; so should the government.

3. Appointment of czars: In case you have forgotten sir, this is the UNITED STATES of AMERICA where we have a republic, by the people, and for the people. YOU and Mr. Obama work for us. These people are being put in positions of power and authority totally unchecked. You must work to stop this non-sense.

4.Health care: Possibly I am in a minority when I say health care is NOT a right, it is a benefit. If your employer provides coverage, great. If not, you have three options: get a better job, pay for coverage, or (God forbid), go to the doctor only when really needed and pay the bill out of pocket. I have spent half my life without insurance - actually raising my sons without - and we have NEVER gone without medical attention. When we needed care, it was always available. Funny thing is, when the doctors know you are paying out of pocket, the bill suddenly gets cheaper and you are not subjected to procedures which you don't need. I would beg you, sir, to vote against any federally controlled health care.

I would encourage you, Mr. Wilson, to take off your "Washington" glasses. Put on your "Bridgeport" small town, small businessman glasses and see with those eyes.

Listen to what your people are saying. We put you in Washington, and you need us to stay there.

Think, sir, for a few minutes about your great grandparents starting their funeral home. They worked hard, provided a much-needed service to the community, and I dare say, they did not ask for or want the government's involvement. What if, through the years, your family had been forced by Washington to provide their employees with health care? What if they had been taken over by Washington? I doubt Wilson Funeral and Furniture would have enjoyed such success. Think about your grandparents, parents, and yourself - all the hard work over the years. It is the American way, and your family is living proof it works.

Put those glasses on, Charlie, and conduct business using those eyes. The people of this Ohio Valley sent you to Washington to do a job - represent us and be our voice. Please remember that with every vote, speech, and meeting.

I implore you, REPRESENT YOUR PEOPLE.

An ounce of prevention...

Maybe it's time for Wheeling to invest in some of it's aged infrastructure. The waterline main break in North Wheeling should teach us some lessons. This isn't the first major break in town and believe me it won't be the last.

You can sink all the money you want into the Capitol Music Hall or new walking trails, etc. but Wheeling as a destination will suffer if it keeps experiencing these major breaks. Beside the cost of emergency repair, the city loses tax revenue because businesses have to close due to lack of water, and other businesses probably suffer as well because of the traffic hassles.

Waterline repair in Wheeling would have been "stimulus money" well spent instead of replacing the median on Route 2 south of Wheeling. But no, it has to be a shovel ready project. You can see where the stimulus package has gotten us. Nowhere.

This is all the more reason why we don't need to RUSH bills through Congress. Quickly throwing money at problems doesn't help. We were told that we can't delay stimulating the economy, as if waiting another 24 hours to pass the stimulus bill would be the difference between the life and death of our economy. And so, in our haste we fail to fix the things that really need fixed.

If Wheeling wants to turn things around it needs to treat these problems BEFORE they occur. An ounce of prevention will truly be worth a pound of cure.

Jay, don't let them use you!!

Your involvement with this Internet bill will cost you your seat. Do you realize that your staff gives the president in this bill the power to shut down the World Wide Webb in the US? I know it has something to do with your family’s bank and their relationship with the Federal Reserve and Goldman/Sacks and all, but you need to represent the welfare of West Virginia once-in-a-while. Your internet bill destroys the welfare of West Virginians by taking away their freedom of speech. That makes you a bad guy! Your family and Obama must understand that is a bit too much to ask. Tell them that these outrageous requirements will harm the republic and destroy your reputation.

I realize that you don’t understand the ramifications of what your staff is doing in your name at all times, but you had better wake up soon on this one. Your family’s name is about to be defamed. It is today becoming obvious why you are in congress and whom you represent. It isn’t WV. You are being used and should distance yourself from this bill or disgrace could come to you and your family soon. While you are at it, get out of congress! You are embarrassing yourself, your family and most importantly West Virginia. Many understand what is going on here and the numbers of those understanding this scheme of corruption are growing everyday.

Well, I caught part of the Townhall Meeting on WTOV's live stream. I had thought that WTOV was going to carry it on air so I had the DVR set up to record it. Well, that was a bust. There was maybe 4 - 30 second clips on spread throughout the 6:00 pm news.

Anyhow, the comment that stuck in my mind was the one from the schoolteacher who has insurance complaining about paying a $200 deductible on an MRI. Maybe I misunderstood her. Maybe she mis-spoke due to speaking in public (hope not if she's a teacher). I think we're all in agreement when I say no one likes to pay for healthcare. Paying for healthcare just doesn't give us that warm fuzzy feeling we get like when we spend money on a new TV, a new car, going to the beach. We just don't get that wonderful surge of dopamine when we're paying medical bills or paying for insurance.

But sometimes we have to pay for things that don't necessarily give us pleasure. What is the most important thing in your life? Ultimately, it's your health. Without your health, you end up dying and then whatever pleasure you derive from other things is gone. So your health is very important but do you want to spend your money on it? Are you willing to drive an older less expensive car to pay for your health? Are you willing to live in a smaller house? Watch a smaller tv? Forego a trip to the beach?

Life is made up of choices and sacrifices and if you want to live for today without planning for tomorrow then you need to suffer tomorrow's consequences. Government healthcare is just another policy that makes the responsible pay for the irresponsible. Just like the mortgage crisis, we have to pay for those who prefer to live beyond their means.

Eureka! During a press briefing Wednesday, Helen Thomas and Chip Reid of CBS News grilled White House spokesman Robert Gibbs about why the Town Hall meeting that Obama is having on healthcare has to have questions submitted ahead of time. This kinda defeats the purpose of an open forum. I would say that Obama can't answer a question without his answer being pre-packaged and displayed on a teleprompter.

Thomas brings up how this administration said it was going to be transparent and has been more controlling of the media than any other administration.

Republicans Should Blow Up Party, Not Marriages: Amity Shlaes

Commentary by Amity Shlaes

June 30 (Bloomberg) -- The question isn’t why Republicans like John Ensign or Mark Sanford are having marital crises. It is why they are choosing to have them now.

One gets the sense that the lawmakers have decided that scandal now is relatively cheap, at least versus a scandal later. After all, 2009 isn’t a year when Republicans are going to win much anyhow. By the next election they and the voters will have sorted out what to make of revelations of hypocrisy and be ready to move on.

The Republicans are wrong. To make 2009 the year of GOP personal scandal is to risk wiping out the party for at least four years, maybe a decade. The Grand Old Party needs a new credo. New credos are best forged in non-election years. So instead of blowing up their marriages, Republicans might try blowing up their party platform.

The single most-profitable franchise for the Republican Party is growth, the kind of growth that sustains the relative competitiveness of the U.S. Instead of being the GOP, the Republicans should become the POG, the Party of Growth.

This growth franchise is Republicans’ for the taking because the Democratic Party leadership is in hot pursuit of other franchises -- the green biz, civil rights and their dearest goal, more government health care.

The growth franchise is also valuable because a lot of people, including many Democrats, recognize that a growth agenda is the only way to preclude a crisis worse than the current one. That crisis is the currency crisis that will occur if the world no longer wants to invest here.

How to make the GOP a POG? Four suggestions:

Stop Moralizing

-- Junk the social conservatism. There’s always been an inherent contradiction in aggressive moralizing by Republicans. On the one hand, the party stands for federalism -- asking Washington to do less. On the other hand the party can’t resist moralizing, even when it means expansion of the federal government. Witness the federal foray into schooling that was No Child Left Behind.

On top of this policy split comes the personal hypocrisy. There are some who argue that voters like a sinning politician who reforms in prime time better than a politician who never betrays his family at all. After all, the former makes for better television. Still, every hour of public tears is an hour of new policy lost.

What next? The energy that used to go into moralizing can go into fighting for policies and laws to sustain that relative competitiveness. One such policy is a commitment to a stable dollar. Already, Ron Paul looks a lot less wacky than he did four years ago. The GOP can and should make a commitment to hardening our currency.

Can’t Outgrow Deficit

-- Take budget-balancing seriously. Gone are the days of Ronald Reagan’s Panglossian promise that we’ll outgrow the deficits. We can’t, without intense budget cuts. This is a negative message, but one Americans may be more willing to heed once unemployment crosses into the double digits. Rahm Emanuel is right -- a crisis is a terrible thing to waste. Conservatives should use this crisis to balance the budget.

Entitlement reform is part of that. One reason it is a shame that Sanford, South Carolina’s governor, is retreating from GOP leadership is that he knows more than most of his colleagues about Social Security. In the 1990s, as a congressman, Sanford put forward a proposal to re-jigger the pension formula that would have erased almost all of Social Security’s shortfalls.

-- Push for growth-oriented tax cuts, the kind that make foreign businesses want to expand here. Capital gains cuts are important. So is improving the relative competitiveness of U.S. firms abroad, rather than undermining it, as the proposed changes to regulations on deferrals would do. Personal income taxes and estate taxes should be lowered or stay low.

Investment Destination

The nonprofit world is reeling after President Barack Obama said he didn’t see the logic in letting higher earners keep their full deductions when they make charitable gifts. Budget- balancing and tax cuts sound mutually exclusive, but they are not if the U.S. pulls a Margaret Thatcher, by making the U.S. an investment destination by pinning up a big sign: “Open for Business.”

Philosophically it is important that Republicans draw a distinction between productive growth and junk gross domestic product. Productive growth can entail some government projects - - the adding of nuclear plants, for instance. Short-term jobs programs, or incremental development programs for green causes at the state level -- not to mention $8,000 tax credits for new homeowners -- are junk GDP. They won’t attract the kind of steady international capital we need for recovery.

Bondholder Rights

-- Stand up for property rights. The kind of rescue that neglects holders of secured debt in favor of union friendship -- as in recent auto deals -- sends a signal to all investors, abroad and here: bonds are uncertain. The GOP shouldn’t be for rescues. It should be for rights.

In even contemplating such grand shifts, Republicans have allies they may not fully appreciate. Those allies are international markets. They don’t vote. But just as markets have punished Obama for neglecting growth and generating uncertainty, they will reward the GOP for doing the opposite.

If all the GOP is doing is looking to start somewhere, it might want to start with thinking about jettisoning the social conservatism from its program. The GOP ails. Long live the POG.

Well not that I read the NYT very much, since it is a slanted liberal rag but - if that is my source, so be it - all the better for the libs, right?

Basically, Obama and Congress are trying to figure out HOW to pay for their massive Universal Health Care debacle, I mean, plan. One of the suggestions is this:

The experts at the round table — liberal and conservative — actually agreed to an impressive degree about the best way to fill the hole. They urged the senators to limit the tax deduction for employer-provided health insurance.
The deduction may seem a wonderful thing, but it isn’t. It benefits the wealthy more than anyone else. It encourages employers to overspend on health insurance, because $100 in untaxed medical benefits is more valuable to workers than $100 in taxed income. And, as Mr. Baucus said, the deduction has a certain Willie Sutton appeal for Congress: it’s where the money is.

SO - I disagree with this - 1) if I, as a small business owner offer insurance to my employees and suddenly it is no longer a deductible expense, what is my incentive for offering it, let alone paying for it? The "goodness of my heart" some liberals will say - um, yeah - THAT will pay the bills, huh? 2) The NYT article confirms that this is another attack on the wealthy - clearly stated in the above paragraph from the article. Maybe SOME employers have too much money and can overspend on healthcare, but I am not one of them. If most people saw our monthly insurance premium, they would gasp - I bet thay have NO IDEA how much good insurance costs. No wonder the auto companies are going under - they likely cannot cover their monthly health insurance costs for current employees, let alone all their retireees. They had to break sometime.

The Main Stream Media has continued to go after the "better off" people in this country by pitting those who do not have against those who do. It doesn't matter that you may have worked your butt off and saved to earn what you have, the implication is that you do not deserve it. OR - you should just "spread it around" to those who do not have it. Why? Just because - or to be more "patriotic". (Hmmmm......who said this? http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26771716/) No, I don't make over $ 250,000.00 - oh, does Geithner fall under this category? He sure was patriotic, eh?

Ayn Rand described 2 groups in "Atlas Shrugged" - looters and moochers. I think the current administration is full of BOTH of these.

Obama's CIA Director Leon Panetta has defended the CIA against Pelosi's attacks on his office. Pelosi is getting caught in her lie that the CIA mislead her. As Newt Gingrich has stated:

"I think she has lied to the House, and I think that the House has an absolute obligation to open an inquiry, and I hope there will be a resolution to investigate her. And I think this is a big deal. I don't think the Speaker of the House can lie to the country on national security matters...

Speaker Pelosi's the big loser, because she either comes across as incompetent, or dishonest. Those are the only two defenses. The fact is she either didn't do her job, or she did do her job and she's now afraid to tell the truth."

It's amazing that the other day she had the nerve to say she was more focused on wresting congressional control from Republicans so her party could change course. Great leadership there Nancy. So it's more important to play partisan politics and promote your party than to pay attention to events that affect the country.

She has got to go. Let's hope the Dems see her for the liability that she is and remove her as Speaker, and maybe someday her own constituents will wise up and completely remove her from office.
